Introduction to CAD for Jewellery Manufacture using Rhino software to create a letter pendant and a solitaire ring ready for 3D printing and casting.
For this class, you'll need to bring your own laptop and have the 90-day free trial of Rhino installed before attending.

What will I make?
In this class, we will introduce CAD for jewellery using Rhino software. By the end of the session, students will have created CAD files for both a letter pendant and a solitaire ring, ready for 3D printing and casting.
What will happen on the days?
You will be introduced to CAD software for jewellery manufacture. We will begin with an Introduction to New Technologies, what can computers bring to your practice and how can you make them your ally.
We will then look at how to use Rhino 3D to make models ready for casting, beginning with learning to make 2D Layouts into 3 Dimensional models ready for casting and ultimately making a single stone solitaire ring ready to be 3D printed and cast.
The aim of the day is give you an insight not only into how to use CAD but also what it can do for you and you’re business as a goldsmith.
What skills do I need?
All levels Workshops that are designed to be flexible and accommodate all skill levels.
Although you won’t need any CAD specific knowledge to do the course some experience of Jewellery manufacture and basic computer literacy would be very beneficial.
What should I bring?
- A laptop with the 90 day free trail of Rhino downloaded prior to the class. https://www.rhino3d.com/download/ (Please check this works before class)
- A USB stick to save your work on.
- Notebook & Pen/Pencil

Who is my instructor?
Stephen Barnett is a freelance jewellery tutor with 11 years of experience in professional education. Before this, he spent over 12 years as a full-time professional goldsmith. Now, he aims to share his extensive knowledge with others, helping them refine their skills and develop their practice as jewellers and goldsmiths.
