What will I make?

Enjoy a special afternoon making a beautiful pendant using rolling mill textures and layers of transparent enamel. The techniques you will cover on the day are:

  • Texturing using the rolling mill

  • Sawing & filing

  • Doming

  • Enamelling using transparent vitreous enamel

  • Making a bezel

  • Setting the piece of enamel in a bezel

What will happen on the day?

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear Jane share her creative journey and the evolution of her remarkable work. You’ll have the chance to handle some of her stunning creations, learn about her processes, and discover how she developed her unique and captivating style.

Following the talk and a Q&A session, Jane will lead you step-by-step in creating your own unique piece of enamelled jewellery.

You’ll start by experimenting with textures using a rolling mill, selecting a pattern to print onto your silver. From there, you’ll cut and dome the silver to create a three-dimensional design. Then comes the most exciting part—adding COLOUR!

Choose from an array of vibrant transparent enamels to overlay your design, allowing the pattern to shine through. Jane will guide you through the firing process, showing how to build up enamelled layers through multiple firings.

To complete your piece, you’ll set the enamel in a bezel and polish it to perfection.

Throughout the day, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to ask Jane questions and gain insight into this beautiful technique.

The experience will be rounded off with a relaxed chat & mingle with Jane over wine and delicious sushi from our neighbours Mugen.

Who is my instructor?

Established and respected for her distinctive work, Jane Moore has been a strong presence in British jewellery and craft for more decades than she cares to admit.  With its whimsical charm and attention to detail, her jewellery is an authentic expression of a warm, outgoing personality and instantly recognisable to fans of contemporary jewellery. She is prolific in developing her unique aesthetic to create new designs that are sensitive, considered and beautifully made. Her energy and enthusiasm are unwavering.

Jane’s inspiration comes from the simple silhouettes of traditional Japanese artefacts and textiles embellished with tiny, floral motifs. She also recalls vivid memories of her Mother’s intricate embroidery.  Ideas begin as drawings in her sketch book, where they can evolve unconstrained by the limitations of the process. Only when she arrives at a pleasing image does she begin to consider whether it is technically possible. While enamelling is rooted in traditional techniques Jane also embraces more modern, industrial methods, such as photo etching, laser cutting, or the application of fine enamel transfers.
