What will I make?

You’ll create a set of sheet samples to document each technique covered during the day, as well as any personal experiments you try.

What will happen on the day?

The day will begin with an introduction to anodised aluminium and its unique properties, along with a review of sample processes you’ll explore during the workshop. Focusing on colour, this session will have you working with pre-anodised aluminium, allowing you to concentrate on decorative techniques.

You will be shown a host of colouring techniques through demonstrations and examples; These will include dip-dyeing, direct application, simple printmaking techniques and the clever use of resists.  You’ll test each technique on small tiles, creating a personal set of reference samples.

There will be plenty of time to play as you start to use colouring techniques in conjunction with one another to create multi layered designs.

We will discuss the basics of colour interaction along the way, and how to create a pleasing colour palette. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with detailed notes, a list of recommended suppliers, a set of samples, and the confidence to continue exploring anodising techniques on your own.
