LEARN-TO: Flush Setting Shaped Stones [JUNE 2026]
Date: Friday 12 June, 2026
Start Time: 10am
End Time: 4.30pm
Venue: FORGE
In this workshop, you’ll learn to flush set different shaped stones. Flush setting is an attractive, neat style of setting that lends itself to clean, modern designs. Flush setting shaped stones beyond round cuts is notoriously difficult, and Stephen will share his own tried-and-tested techniques to help you master it. Through demonstration, discussion, and guided practice, you’ll learn the key steps involved in creating this distinctive setting style and gain the confidence to apply it in your own work.
What will I make?
You’ll complete your own sterling silver ring flush set with different shaped stones.
Working with a pre-cast silver ring, you’ll set your stones using traditional hand tools. By the end of the day, you’ll take home a ring set with shaped stones, including Princess and Marquise cuts.
What will I learn?
- Learn to flush set shaped stones using Stephen’s own unique methods.
- Build confidence using specialist tools, including scorpers and pendant motors, essential for precision stone setting.

- Complete a sterling silver ring flush set with different shaped stones.
What will happen during the workshop?
The day will begin with an introduction and a look at sample pieces of flush setting, using the same castings and stones you’ll be working with in class. Your tutor will then outline the fundamentals of the technique, explaining the key considerations for setting shaped stones in this style.
A demonstration of the tools used in the process will follow, with particular focus on scorpers, pendant motors, and the methods required to achieve a clean, professional finish. Each stage of the setting methods will be demonstrated throughout the day, allowing you to observe the process clearly before attempting it yourself.
Students will work through each step on their own ring, with guidance and individual support provided throughout.
