Sophie Newbound Jewellery

Sophie’s love of jewellery came from her Nan who let her play with her jewellery box as a child. Her passion for making was sparked later through silversmithing classes at City Lit while living in London.

Now based in Leeds, Sophie’s work is shaped by her travels and surroundings, in particular the traces left by time and nature. This fascination is reflected in her work through texture, irregularity and characterful surfaces. While she doesn’t adhere to a single technique, she often uses sand casting to create distinctive surfaces and finishes.

Sustainability sits at the core of her practice, from reusing and recycling metals to packaging pieces in vintage jewellery boxes or scarves. Sophie is a member of Jewellers of Yorkshire (JOY) and teaches silversmithing in Leeds.
