Saskia Gavin Jewellery

Texture, movement and the syncopation of repeating elements are the characteristic features of Saskia’s jewellery. She takes shapes and forms from her surroundings and plays with them until they resonate with her particular aesthetic. Working mostly with copper and recycled silver she uses both traditional techniques and newer technologies: surfaces may be etched, hammered, patinated, plated; elements may be threaded, soldered, riveted, welded.

She is interested in how things work: the design of pods and seeds, pollination ecology, how or why different rocks weather differently,....and often uses making to explain these to herself. She likes jewellery that can be fiddled with, so often includes moving parts, or contrasting textures.

Her pieces range from discrete every-day to more eye-catching occasion wear- they each come from a collection with a story.
