MASTERMAKER Leonid Dementiev [FEB 2026]

Date: Friday 06 February, 2026

Start Time: 2:00pm

End Time: 7:00pm

Venue: FORGE

Join us at FORGE on Friday, 6th February for an exclusive MasterMaker session with renowned jewellery designer Leonid Dementiev. Discover how Leonid combines traditional precious metal wire techniques with laser welding to create his distinctive,  handcrafted jewellery.

Have you ever utilised jigs in your making? This workshop offers a fantastic opportunity to familiarise yourself with the versatility of jigs in creating precise wire components — a practical and efficient technique to streamline production and an excellent alternative to casting for small batch making.

In this hands-on session, you’ll explore Leonid’s creative process, watch live demonstrations, and craft your own Elvish-inspired ring or bracelet using silver wire. The design captures flowing, organic patterns reminiscent of Tolkien’s world while introducing you to the creative potential of working with jigs.

What is our MasterMaker Series?

What will I make?

In this workshop you will make a unique ring OR bracelet using a jig to form the silver wirework into the natural, flowing patterns typical of Elvish design.

What will I learn?

You’ll learn a range of traditional and modern techniques, including:

  • Forming and shaping silver wire using pre-prepared jigs

  • Transferring texture onto wire using a rolling mill

  • Bending and shaping wire into flowing, organic forms

  • Demonstration of laser welding techniques Leonid uses in his work

  • Basic soldering techniques

What will happen on the day?

You’ll begin with an introduction and talk by Leonid, who will share insights into his creative process and ethical approach to jewellery-making.

Leonid will then demonstrate some of the jigs he designs and uses in his own work, showing how these tools help him create intricate wire structures. He’ll also bring along a pendant sample, showing how this project evolved from earlier experiments.

He’ll follow with a live laser welding demonstration, showcasing how he uses this contemporary technique in his fine jewellery practice.

Under Leonid’s guidance, you’ll:

  • Use pre-prepared jigs and other tools to shape and form your wire structure

  • Observe Leonid laser-welding the ends (participants may handle the laser only if they’ve completed the taster session — dates for future laser welding workshops at FORGE: 18 Sept 2026, 26 Jun 2026, 27 Mar 2026)

  • Optionally refine and burnish your piece

We’ll wrap up the experience with sushi, conversation, and a chance to admire everyone’s finished creations.
