What will I make?


You'll design and create your own pendant, charm, or drop earrings. The number of pieces you complete will depend on the size of your designs, as you'll be working with a set amount of silver clay.


What will I Learn?


In this beginner friendly workshop, you will learn all about how to use silver clay to create beautiful, unique jewellery. You will learn;



  • How to handle, texture, roll, and cut silver clay

  • How to refine and drill holes in your pieces

  • How to torch and kiln fire your jewellery

  • How to polish and patinate your final creations


What will happen on the day?


To begin the day, your tutor will introduce you to silver clay, explaining its properties and showing examples of their work. This will be followed by a step-by-step demonstration will guide you through texturing, rolling, and cutting the clay.


You’ll then create your own designs with hands-on support from your tutor. Once your pieces are shaped, you’ll learn how to refine, torch fire, polish, and patinate your piece.


The workshop is broken into clear, manageable steps, with demonstrations and guidance throughout. Students are encouraged to ask questions, experiment, and enjoy the creative process. By the end of the session, you’ll have completed 1–3 unique pieces of silver jewellery, gaining valuable skills along the way!


What skills do I need?


Beginners


Perfect for those starting out or who have little to no experience.


What should I bring?


- Reading glasses (if you need them!) 


- Money or card payment extra silver findings such as ear posts and chains


What should I wear? 


Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged.  Avoid long, loose fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught whilst you are working.


Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!


Hair: Tie long hair back.


Who is my instructor?


Grainne has been a passionate metal clay artist and tutor for over 10 years, sharing her expertise through a wide range of workshops. Originally trained as a psychiatric nurse, she pursued a more creative path, earning a diploma in Silver Clay. From her garden studio, she designs new jewellery collections and develops innovative workshops. She teaches across the UK and Europe, including at Arts University Bournemouth, West Dean College, and a silver clay retreat in Andalusia, Spain. Grainne has also been a speaker at major metal clay conferences like You Can Make It and Sinter.
