What will I make?

You’ll create a wax design for grillz on a model of your own teeth, made from impressions you’ll take during the workshop. This wax model is the essential first step in producing a set of custom grillz.

If you’d like to take your piece further, you can choose an optional upgrade to have your design cast and professionally finished by Tuff Tooth after the workshop.
Pricing for the upgrade will be confirmed on the day.

What will I learn?

What will happen on the day?

Welcome & intro

• View samples of different grillz styles and discuss design possibilities, materials, and what’s achievable in wax.

Impressions – demo & practice

• Live demonstration of how to take a dental impression


• Hands-on: take your own impression with guidance and support

Plaster models – demo & practice

• Live demonstration of how to pour and prepare a plaster model from an impression


• Hands-on: make a plaster model of your own teeth

Wax design – demo & practice

• Live demonstration of wax laying and carving for grillz


• Hands-on: design, lay and carve your own wax grillz on your model, with one-to-one guidance as needed

Throughout the session, there will be plenty of time for questions, troubleshooting, and personalised tips on fit, style and next steps if you choose to have your design cast after the workshop.

What skills do I need?

All levels Workshops that are designed to be flexible and accommodate all skill levels.

What should I bring?

• Notebook with a pencil and eraser


• Reading glasses if needed


• Apron to protect clothes


• Clean teeth and a big smile!

What should I wear? 

Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged.  Avoid long, loose fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught whilst you are working.

Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open toed sandals in case you drip hot wax on them!

Hair: Please tie long hair back.

Who are my instructors?

Leon and Mowgli are the team behind Tuff Tooth. Tuff Tooth is a company that specialises in grillz specifically and has been running for over 2 years. In that time they've been able to hone in on their process and really work on the skills required to make custom grillz from scratch.

Although they both do a bit of everything, Mowgli is the expert on waxing and the jewellery making side of the business, with years of experience prior to Tuff Tooth. Leon focuses on impressions, design consultation and workflow, ensuring each piece is perfectly tailored. Between them, they’ll guide you through every stage and share everything you need to know about making grillz!
