Join this jewellery polishing workshop with master polisher Reg Elliot of Elliot Fitzpatrick and learn how to achieve a professional mirror finish on silver and gold.
With over fifty years of experience at the bench, Reg teaches a refined polishing method that moves away from traditional, labour intensive preparation. Instead of relying on multiple stages of filing, stoning, and emery paper, you will learn how to polish directly from file marks using controlled techniques.
This approach allows you to level and finish metal surfaces in a single stage, helping you maintain flat planes, sharp edges, and a clean, high quality mirror finish.
Taking place in Reg’s professional polishing workshop, this small group session is limited to four participants, offering focused tuition and direct access to specialist knowledge rarely taught in a workshop setting.
What will I make?
This workshop focuses on developing professional jewellery polishing skills rather than producing a finished piece.
You will practise on sample metal in the morning to build confidence in the techniques. In the afternoon, you will apply these methods to your own jewellery or metalwork, with guidance from Reg.
What will I learn?
You will learn professional polishing techniques for silver and gold, including how to:
• Achieve a mirror finish directly from file marks
• Reduce or remove the need for emery paper and surface preparation
• Use hard felt polishing tools to level and refine metal surfaces
• Maintain flat surfaces and sharp edges during polishing
• Control the polishing process to improve accuracy and finish quality
• Understand how metal behaves under polishing and how to avoid distortion
• Work efficiently using a small number of tools and polishing compounds
You will also gain a clear understanding of how to simplify your polishing process while achieving a higher standard of finish.
What will happen during the workshop?
The day begins with an introduction to traditional jewellery polishing methods, including the limitations of multi stage preparation using abrasives.
Reg will then demonstrate his professional polishing technique, developed through decades of practical experience working on jewellery, silverware, and large scale pieces.
You will practise flat polishing using hard felt tools, learning how to level and polish surfaces at the same time to achieve a clean mirror finish.
In the afternoon, you will work on your own jewellery or metalwork, applying these techniques with one to one guidance. This allows you to refine your process, improve your results, and gain confidence in a professional polishing workflow.

Who is my teacher?
Reg Elliot is a master jewellery polisher with over fifty years of experience working with silver and gold.
He began his career at sixteen and trained in traditional polishing techniques before developing a more efficient and controlled method through daily work at the bench. At twenty seven, he co founded Elliot Fitzpatrick Ltd, where he worked on jewellery, silverware, and hollowware, refining his approach over decades.
His methods are based on practical application and have been proven across thousands of finished pieces. This workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from a specialist with deep expertise in professional jewellery polishing.
