Layla Balfour
Layla Balfour creates jewellery that explores memory, belonging and human connection through found objects and personal histories. Having travelled extensively before returning to study jewellery at Carmarthen School of Art, she challenges traditional notions of what jewellery should be by elevating found objects and immortalising items often viewed as disposable, transforming them into personal treasures.
Combining traditional jewellery-making techniques with needlework and experimental processes, her work contrasts the handmade with the manufactured, giving overlooked objects renewed emotional significance. Rooted in childhood memories and nostalgia, Layla's practice reimagines what has been left behind, creating jewellery that expresses ideas of community, identity and belonging.
