Karen Moon

Karen Moon’s work is informed by her investigation of cultural heritage in professional projects and everyday encounters with natural and man-made forms. Exploring pattern, surface, construction and process, drawing inspiration from urban, natural, industrial and archaeological forms, she combines unusual minerals, base metals and recycled silver and gold. Using techniques such as etching, enamelling and patination, Karen creates a range of works from bowls and containers to brooches and hinged cuffs. Her aesthetic balances minimal structure with organic form, and her work has been featured in several publications.

She studied Jewellery and Industrial Design, as well as Cultural History, at Birmingham City University, the Royal College of Art and the Corcoran School of the Arts in the USA. Alongside a career exploring the history and interpretation of built heritage, she has remained a dedicated maker, with metal as her principal medium.
