Julia Mathias designs and creates individual pieces inspired by the beauty, form and colour of natural gemstones. Often beginning with an unusual or raw stone, she develops a setting that enhances its individual qualities and impact. Combining the organic with the architectural, each piece is distinctive and unique, reflecting Julia’s passion for design. Her work also explores texture and shape through the use of mixed metals and varied surface treatments. An early influence was Japanese design, particularly its linear, restrained aesthetic, which continues to inform the balance and simplicity within her jewellery.
