Helen Smith
Helen Smith is a Suffolk-based jeweller who trained at Sir John Cass Faculty of Art. She specialises in Mokume Gane, an ancient Japanese metalworking technique known for its distinctive, organic patterns. Helen works with alternating layers of sterling silver and shibuichi, a copper and silver alloy, which are fused together before being carved, drilled and forged to reveal intricate, woodgrain-like patterns. The resulting decorative metal is then transformed into simple, elegant jewellery, often enhanced with 18ct yellow gold or selected gemstones. Through this meticulous process, Helen balances technical precision with organic pattern, allowing the material itself to shape the character of each piece.
