Can-Fen Wang
Can-Fen Wang (Sunny) is a Taiwanese artist currently studying Jewellery & Metal at the Royal College of Art. Having learnt lacquer techniques from Japanese urushi experts, she uses natural lacquer and aluminium as her primary materials, combining traditional lacquer art with contemporary metalworking methods to create both expressive and functional pieces. Her practice challenges the notion that tradition is obsolete, demonstrating that traditional aesthetics and techniques still hold new potential for exploration, application and form. Wang’s work has been recognised internationally: her metalwork piece Moonlight was selected for the 2024 Itami International Craft Exhibition in Japan, and she was shortlisted for the 2026 Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers Awards in London.
