Anastasia Young & Paul Wells
Anastasia Young
Anastasia Young is an award-winning jewellery artist and engraver who has written four practical jewellery books and taught extensively. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Science Museum, London and Central Saint Martins Museum. Her MACHINA collection explores notions of pseudo-functional machinery, combining cast and constructed elements. Plastic components from machines and devices are transformed into precious metal, creating a new visual language punctuated by gemstones. The resulting pieces retain the functional forms of their original components, suggesting a practical purpose while remaining detached from their origins. Through these ambiguous forms and the use of cataloguing numbers, Anastasia invites associations with machinery, function and the systems of information that often go unnoticed in everyday life.

Paul Wells
Paul Wells is an award-winning Birmingham-based silversmith and jeweller, renowned for his innovative use of direct metalworking techniques. His jewellery and silverware explore fold-forming, including a method he developed using curved scores to fold sheet metal into distinctive, sculptural forms. This technique has earned him two Gold Awards for Technological Innovation from the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council. Paul's exploration of curved score folding produces organic, nature-inspired forms that almost appear to have grown themselves into existence, creating pieces that are both functional and decorative. In 2022, he co-authored New Jewellery Techniques with Anastasia Young, a practical guide to curved score folding published by Hoaki and now available in five languages.
