You will be guided through making a silver fidget/kinetic element ring with a tube set stone.
A kinetic fidget ring is a unique and interactive piece of jewellery designed to engage the wearer in subtle, calming movements. Unlike traditional rings, a kinetic fidget ring incorporates movable elements, often with a focus on tactile experiences. The term "kinetic" refers to the motion and movement involved in these rings.

What will I make?
Crafting the Ring Shank: Learn to make a simple ring shank, setting the groundwork for your dynamic ring.
Tube and Disc Cutting: Master the art of cutting tubes and discs, essential for the moving element of your ring.
Soldering the Moving Element: Learn the intricacies is soldering and connecting the moving parts
Constructing the Frame: Choose between a rectangular or oval frame, constructing the foundation for your ring.
Stone Setting: Add the finishing touch with stone setting, enhancing the visual appeal of your creation.
What will happen on the day?
Introduction and Refreshments: Get started with a brief introduction and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
Demonstrations and Guidance: The tutor will outline the production stages through demonstrations and provide individual guidance.
Project Time: Apply your learning to work on your individual project.
Lunch Break: There will be a half hour lunch break, there are cafes in the are to grab lunch and a coffee to refuel for the afternoon.
Conclusion: The workshop will round off with a look at everyone’s kinetic masterpieces!
What skills do I need?
Difficulty Level: MEDIUM
You will need to have jewellery making knowledge and be confident in soldering and rub-over stone setting.
What should I bring?
- Reading glasses (if you need them!)
- Money or card payment for optional gold plating and posting rings to you (if collecting isn't possible)
- Notebook
What should I wear?
Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged. Avoid long, loose fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught whilst you are working.
Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!
Hair: Tie long hair back.
Who is my instructor?
Rebecca Ilett has been teaching Jewellery of all levels at London Colleges for the past 10 years. She has her own jewellery/ Sculpture practice and has recently exhibited at Goldsmiths Fair.
