Over three evenings you will carve your own unique Bombé Ring is taught by the talented and expert wax carver Russell Lownsbrough, author of Wax Carving for Jewellery!


Using the ancient technique of wax-carving you will create your own unique bespoke version of this eternal classic. Learn the history of the Bombé ring from the Edwardian era to the present day and the  6500 year old technique of lost wax casting.

What will I make?


A wax model of your own unique Bombé Ring.


What will happen on the day?


Russell will demonstrate the techniques of carving and embellishing a ring and bring examples of wax-carved rings to the class for inspiration. In the process you will discover the fascinating history of Bombé Rings. 


During the workshop you will plan your ring, transfer the design to wax and carve it from jeweller's wax under expert guidance from one of the best wax-carvers in the industry.


At the end of the workshop you can choose to have your ring cast in the metal of your choice, your tutor will explain the options available and the cost of each.


What skills do I need?


Difficulty Level: EASY


No previous experience needed, just a steady hand, a little patience and willingness to give it a go! Don't worry if you feel you're not artistic or creative, you will be taken through the whole process step by step.


What should I bring?


- Pencil and paper 


- Reading glasses (if you need them!) 


- Money or card payment for optional casting of your ring


What should I wear? 


Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged.  Avoid long, loose fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught whilst you are working.


Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!


Hair: Tie long hair back.

The class is taught by Russell Lownsbrough FIPG, author of Waxcarving for Jewellery, Goldsmiths Craft and Design Council member, award-winning master-craftsman and highly experienced jewellery tutor.
