In this four week course you will learn more advanced setting techniques, including pave setting and setting fancy shaped stones. Each week you will watch a demonstration of the setting technique and then have a chance to practice the technique with the guidance of an expert jeweller. This course offers the chance to learn setting techniques under the tutelage of an expert jeweller with over 50 years of experience in both making and jewellery tutoring.

What will I make?
Over the four weeks you will practice the following techniques on pre-made mounts and copper squares:
Setting fancy shape stones
What will happen on the day?
In each session you will watch a demonstration of a new setting technique and then have a chance to practice the technique with the guidance of an expert jeweller.
This is the perfect opportunity to hone your setting skills and troubleshoot any difficulties you are having.
You will be setting Cubic Zirconia stones into pre-made mounts and squares of copper sheet, allowing you to practice this skill without the expense. If you would like to bring your own stones/mount please get in touch prior to the course.
Following this course there is the opportunity to undertake the advanced setting course, which covers pave setting and setting fancy shapes stones.
What skills do I need?
Difficulty Level: MEDIUM/HARD
This course follows on from the beg/int setting course, therefore some previous setting skills in preferable.
What should I bring?
- Reading glasses (if you need them!)
- Money or card payment for optional gold plating and posting rings to you (if collecting isn't possible)
What should I wear?
Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged. Avoid long, loose fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught whilst you are working.
Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open toed sandals in case you drop a hammer or something hot on them!
Hair: Tie long hair back.
