In this four week course you will learn four setting styles: 4 claw, bezel, surface, grain and star setting. Each week you will watch a demonstration and then have a chance to practice the technique with the guidance of an expert setter with over 50 years of experience in both making and jewellery tutoring.

What will I make?
Over the four weeks you will practice the following techniques on pre-made mounts and copper squares:
- 4 claw collet setting
- Rub over bezel setting
- Surface setting/Grain setting
- Star setting
What will happen on the day?
In each session you will watch a demonstration of a new setting technique and then practice the technique with the guidance of an expert jeweller.
This is the perfect opportunity to hone your setting skills and troubleshoot any difficulties you are having.
You will be setting Cubic Zirconia stones into pre-made mounts and squares of copper sheet, allowing you to practice this skill without the expense. If you would like to bring your own stones/mount please get in touch prior to the workshop.
Following this course there is the opportunity to undertake the advanced setting course, which covers pave setting and setting fancy shapes stones.
What skills do I need?
Difficulty Level: EASY/MEDIUM
Some previous hand making skills is beneficial, but not essential.
What should I bring?
- Reading glasses (if you need them!)
- Notebook and pen
What should I wear?
Clothes: Casual and not too precious as they may get a bit dusty or damaged. Avoid long, loose fitting sleeves and anything that might catch or get caught whilst you are working.
Shoes: Casual flat shoes and no open toed sandals.
Hair: Tie long hair back.
